Today we take a BREAK from the Real Estate world and bring you 9 ways to super-charge your immune system.

Hand sanitisation, masks and social distancing are all great ways to prevent the spread of disease, however, an even better way to protect yourself is to ensure you have a super-strong immune system.

TRY THESE 9 TIPS:

TIP 1: Sleep sleep sleep!
Sleep deprivation decreases the immune system’s disease-fighting abilities. 8 hours per night will ensure you fight off most viruses. An extra-hour of sleep has shown to improve mental alertness, cognitive functioning, physical strength and mood.

TIP 2: Vitamin D
Sunlight has incredible benefits for building up the immune system. Vitamin D also reduces depression and improves weight loss (as the vitamin acts as an appetite-suppressant in the body). 20 minutes of direct sunlight per day is required. Take a walk outdoors during your lunch break. Or, stuck on a work call? take your call outside and walk in the sun.

TIP 3: Ginger & Turmeric
Robust evidence confirms that both ginger and turmeric work to significantly reduce inflammation in the body. Additionally, fresh ginger also has an antiviral effect on the body and works particularly well to support respiratory infections.
Ginger and turmeric shots have gained popularity and can be purchased at most fresh juice stores. Alternatively, make your own at home using a juicer or nutribullet, mixing the fresh ingredients with an apple or other sweet fruit.

TIP 4: Super Greens power
Super greens help alkalise the body. Research indicates that “disease thrives in acidic conditions”. A daily dose of super greens will help maintain your body’s blood pH at an alkaline level and keep the immune system strong.

TIP 5: Fruit & vegetables should form 70% of your DIET
Packed with water, dietary fibre, vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants, and ant-inflammatory agents, fruit and vegetables should make up 70% or more of your diet. Because they are jam-packed with goodness, fruit and vegetables provide the body with a supply of energy and hydration, meaning your body will function at an optimal level. Choose organic produce where possible.

TIP 6: Get your sweat on!
Skin is the largest organ in the body, and this means it’s the best way to expel toxins from the body. When you exercise, you need to ensure you are sweating. Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of walking 7 days a week, however 3 days should incorporate intense exercise such as strength training or body resistance work to get the heart rate pumping & this means sweating!

TIP 7: Have fun the good old-fashioned way
Put away your mobile phone, computer and step away from the TV! It’s time for some good old-fashioned “kids style” fun! This could include, outdoor activities such as tennis, rollerblading, bike riding, basketball, trampolining, skipping, boxing, at home dance videos etc. Get back into the game with some kids sports and let your inner child have some fun!
Additionally, puzzles, chess, card games, and board games will fuel your imagination, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. Playing is fun and will trigger the release of endorphins which improves your emotional well-being.

TIP 8: Eat home-made food
Whilst it is tempting to order your next meal from Uber Eats, home-made food is more harmonious with the body because there are no additives, high fat oils, salts, MSG or preservatives.
Food bought outside will always contain some form of artificial substances that lower your immune system. This means the body must work harder to process the chemicals to eliminate them out of your system. This added stress on the body decreases your immunity.

TIP 9: Fasting
Fasting is one of the best ways to strengthen your immune system. The process of fasting allows your body time to rest and to work through any pending issues developing in the body.
Benefits of fasting included: lowed insulin levels, weight loss, balance in hormones, increased cellular repair, increased brain functioning, improved waste removal, and overall improved health, energy and vitality.
Start from fasting once or twice a week, eating between the hours of 12pm – 6pm. You can increase the intensity of your fast by swapping your food intake to juice & water for a more intense internal body cleanse.
